The Athletic’s Celtic correspondent Kieran Devlin has claimed that it is possible the Hoops may bring in a set-piece coach.

The Lowdown: Postecoglou arrives on his own

Ange Postecoglou arrived as manager at Parkhead last summer a relatively unknown figure after the club’s attempts to bring in Eddie Howe fell through.

The 56-year-old decided against bringing any backroom staff and has worked alongside the likes of John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan in the Parkhead dugout.

Nonetheless, the Hoops are still on for a domestic treble in what has been an impressive first season at the helm for Postecoglou, who recently explained the reasons why he arrived in Scotland by himself.

The Latest: Devlin’s claim

Devlin shared a Celtic mailbag on The Athletic and responded to a question on the possibility of bringing in a set-piece coach.

The reliable reporter claimed that such a move is possible and said that it ‘could be the difference in turning draws into wins’ for the Hoops.

The Verdict: Interesting…

The Hoops have had a poor record when it comes to defending set pieces in recent years and had the joint fourth-worst record in that respect in 2020/21.

This season under Postecoglou hasn’t gone much better in that regard. As of February 23, as reported by The Celtic Way, the Hoops have conceded nine set-piece goals from 60 shots allowed – the joint second-worst in the league.

On that basis, looking to add a set-piece coach to Postecoglou’s coaching staff could be a wise move as Celtic look to take advantage of every single marginal gain possible in this tightly-contested Premiership title race.
