Rashid Latif’s letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) on the subject of “fancy-fixing” may have been written with the best intentions, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are far from amused. The nation’s cricket has been haunted by the spectre of match-fixing for much of the past decade, and Latif’s comments seemed to touch several open sores.”He has done something which is akin to clawing at an issue dead and buried,” said Rameez Raja, the PCB chief executive. “In a way, he has brought unwanted attention on Pakistan cricket.”Raja indicated that disciplinary action may be taken against Latif, as he did not intimate the PCB about the letter before sending it. He will meet with Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, the PCB chairman, before deciding on a course of action. Latif’s captaincy is already under scrutiny after a 1-2 reverse against England in the NatWest Challenge last month.
