West Ham United should try to sign Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma on loan amid reports from The Sun that Everton are after the Frenchman.
What’s the word?
Manuel Pellegrini is not in desperate need of a defender, but perhaps the Chilean coach should keep an eye on the situation involving Zouma.
According to The Sun, Everton are considering a move for the centre-back with the aim of signing him on a season-long loan.
Marco Silva is in need of a new centre-back given that Ashley Williams has joined Stoke City for the season on a temporary deal.
West Ham have already signed Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena to join the defence, but they may need some extra cover as the season progresses.
Why Zouma?
Given that the 23-year-old is in the media at the moment suggests that Chelsea could be open to another loan.
If that is so, then it is the best-case scenario for West Ham considering that they have spent plenty of money already.
As mentioned, there is currently no pressing need for the East London outfit to bring in a new defender, but if injuries occur throughout the season, Zouma – valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt – could be very important.
Winston Reid is already facing a spell on the sidelines, while Angelo Ogbonna is the only other recognised centre-back aside from the two new additions.
If Chelsea are open to listening to loan offers, then West Ham should consider a swoop.
